Section 1302 of Title XIII of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 directs the Secretary of Energy”...report to Congress concerning the status of smart grid deployments nationwide and any regulatory or government barriers to continued deployment.” Smart Energy Source recognizes that Smart Grid offers both challenges and opportunities for the utility sector. The identified case studies are to assure that we create greater understanding, utilize knowledge learned to shape future policy and optimize assets by leveraging partnerships. Critical questions that will be defined include:

• What are the business functions that receive the largest value proposition from Smart Grid deployment?
• What does the future business model look like and how do we create a sustainable business model with Smart Grid technologies?
• How do we enable new technologies, new innovations, member participation and at the same time address business continuity?
