Production Output

This data will present whether the generation facility is producing as it is designed to do so. In order to show this, graphs of daily and hourly demand outputs from the generation facility are to be developed.

Home Energy Consumption Comparison

With the installation of a distributed generation facility, it is natural for the owner to reduce their electric usage within the domicile through energy use habit changes. Also SES granted facilities were required to have an energy audit performed at the domicile prior to the grant funding distribution which can alter energy use if advice was heeded. In order to show this phenomenon, graphs of daily, monthly and hourly energy net use and generated energy use is to be compared.

Return on Investment Analysis

As with any plant investment, the owner wants to ensure that they will see a return on that particular investment.  The Return on Investment analysis will show the financial feasibility of each of these SES granted installation sites.

For some, alternative energy is simply a whimsical thought; a fanciful notion that seems far-fetched. For others, such as Monte and Helen Jestes alternative energy is simply a way of life. Jestes is the new owner of a 36-panel solar array used to power his home. The 7.2 kilowatt system is expected to produce 7.2 kilowatt hours of electricity for every hour in full sunlight. The idea of solar energy is not new to Jestes. In fact, a solar panel has been powering his airplane hangar for approximately 10 years.  For Jestes, there was not much contemplation on wind as opposed to solar. Jestes has been pleased with the success of the solar panel at his airplane hangar and has wanted to power his home using solar energy for quite some time.  For more information about the configuration of Jestes' solar array, become a member of the Smart Energy Source gateway at www.mysource.coop.

Solar technology has been in a slow advancing state for several years; partly dues to technology advancements and partly due to high investment costs. With recent advancements that have lowered manufacturing costs, the initial investment of a PV system has become more feasible for residential consumers.

The past few years have seen many advances in technologies for solar installations. New films are being developed. Stimulus funding has also lead many companies to research storage options for energy produced alternative mean for both large and small scale installations.

As technology advances the reality is the industry faces the challenge of who will certify the designs as being safe, what are the minimum performance requirements and how the product is to be used. All of these questions need to be addressed before these produces are available to consumers.
